December 3, 2025 Evening@SMART Presentation: Dr. Suresh Babu

"Towards Autonomous Manufacturing and AI Based Qualification of Metallic Components"

Dr. Suresh Babu
Clark Distinguished Chair
Department of Materials Science & Engineering

Biography

Metal 3D printing is becoming smarter and more automated. Advanced cameras now monitor the process in real time, tracking heat patterns to spot issues early and predict part reliability. Artificial intelligence analyzes this data to detect defects, assess performance impacts, and automatically adjust the process, reducing human oversight. In this talk, Dr. Babu will discuss how these technologies are transforming metal manufacturing into a data-driven system that ensures consistent quality and could accelerate the production and adoption of mission-critical and non-critical components across industry and government.
